February 2010
Getting to the Heart of It
It's LOVE MONTH! Some women are gearing up for sultry rendezvouses with their not-usually-romantic partners; some men are asking around for ideas on "something different" so as not to disappoint their significant others, and flower shops are ecstatic about the busy season. So, what are you getting into this Valentine’s day? Need help? See the V Day resource at the end of this page. It covers everything from mix tapes to sweet-smelling stuff, and tons of goodies in between.
Well, that's about as commercial as I get! Now, back to the business of Extraordinary YOU!
While this month’s focus is on heart-warming sentiments, let's be sure to include that cardiac organ that helps maintain our internal environment. Last month, I asked how 2010 would be the start of something better for you, and I'm thinking there's no better place to start than your health!February is Heart Month, and to call the current statistics “overwhelming” would be a gross understatement. According to a 2009 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about every 25 seconds, an American will have a coronary event, and about one every minute will die from one. Let's not forget that in America, heart disease is the number 1 killer of women! Here's an excellent nutrition resources guide to help regain and maintain your family's health, starting with you. After all, you have a lot to live for, and your light can't shine clear across the world if you're piling the effects of poor nutritional habits in its way!
Speaking of shining lights, this month's My, She's Fly, Janelle J. Gilbert, shares the radiance of family love with us, just in time to warm our hearts and remind us that Happily Ever After does exist! With a hearty career plate, a busy husband, and a "little big boy" who would make even the most seasoned Hallmark photographers swoon, Janelle's candid responses will sound eerily familiar, and perhaps jolt you into a state of motion, and on to your FULLEST self.
Here's to your heart, in the figurative and literal sense! Have the heart to be your own best advocate, and to insist on a healthy mind and body! Have the heart to put your vision before your fears, and keep on doing what makes you smile. As always, these monthly notes are as much for me as they are for you. When I sit still and write to you, I get to read what it too! I am moving ahead with Execumama Enterprises, and that includes a new Face/Forward event in March, and my first Execumama workshop in the Spring, for which I'm teaming up with a dear friend and a divine entrepreneur!! If you haven't, please register for this site and Face-Forward to stay in-the-know about the Execumama haps!
Happy Every Day to you, and that's from the heart!

The Execumama, defined: A young mother, in her 20's or 30's, with established goals for her children and herself. Focused, disciplined, and skilled, she's steadily making a name for herself in her industry. Despite the unique challenges of a young working mother, be she an entrepreneur or a corporate trailblazer, she is on a daily mission to make her OWN choices, unencumbered by society's pressures to choose between active parenting and business growth. Never apologetic for exercising her right to create her own audacious universe, where her commitment and acumen fuel her dual roles as matriarch and business maven, Execumama is truly a WARRIOR.
