I realized almost 8 years ago, while pregnant with my first child, that the reality of her existence would made my life better.

Little did I know that I’d have the privilege of being entrusted with a second daughter, and that her existence would further embed the need for excellence in my life.

Marley and Sage-Niambi aligned me with my purpose, reminded me of my greatness, and held me directly responsible for making the world better. Yes, it was (and still is) that serious.

Last Friday, Marley and I huddled on my bed while she told me about her day. She went over the good/fun/usual stuff, and we giggled together as we usually do. Then she got serious.

“Mommy, I had the shock of my life today, and I even cried a little bit because I was like “Whoa, is this really happening?’.”

My stomach lurched. I stopped playing in her hair and raised her head with my hand so we could power up with the energy of eye contact.

“What happened, Mar?” I inquired, trying my best not to show my anxiety.

She recounted the details of “The Shock” as I listened keenly. I followed her ques and sprinkled bits of mommy-wisdom where I deemed necessary; but mostly, I listened.

When she was done, she—in her usual brilliance and connection to her Higher Self said, “You know, this would make a great blog post for Execumama.com, because this can help people to deal with shocks in their own lives, right?”

Right. So very right.

I set her up on the computer and left the room so she didn’t feel tempted to ask me what she should write, and so I didn’t feel tempted to correct her written grammar. #Confession

Here’s what she wrote (below), BUT BEFORE YOU READ IT, I have three questions for you:

  1. When was the last time you and the little girl inside you had a heart-to-heart?
  2. What would the 7-year-old version of you say about your life right now?
  3. Are you currently dealing with a situation that leaves you feeling challenged about being yourself?

While in Jamaica for the Core Connection Lifestyle annual Yoga & Wellness retreat, I conducted a Live Your Grain session, and I conjured up the little girl versions of the women in the room. We conversed in a filter-free format, and it was intense ad heavily emotional.

Speaking and listening to your little girl (the one inside and the one who calls you mom) grants access to the recesses of your thoughts. I want you to access that little girl today, if even just for a few minutes, and start a dialogue about the one thing that’s challenging your right to be yourself.

Click here for the details of Marley’s “Shock”. I know it will help you.

On Marley’s behalf, you’re welcome.
