Embracing the imbalance of the work/life experience

When my life evolved into that of an on-the-go twenty-something mother working in various facets of real estate, I scoured the bookstores for anything that spoke to women, particularly women of color, about managing the double duties that accompany working motherhood. To my chagrin, all I found were books targeting my upper middle class, non-minority counterparts. This is how the idea of the Execumama came to life.

The title “Execumama: A pocket guide for the twenty-something mommy on the move” is a quick but substantive read, complete with interviews, profiles and mantras of women who successfully manage the struggles of young motherhood and ambitious career pursuits. The often overlooked group of women who need this book are currently piecing together working guidelines from segments of books with titles that seem to address us, but fall short in many ways.

Execumama is organized by sections rather than titles. Section one defines her; section two recognizes her unique challenges, and section three details the five Execumama Mantras. Throughout the text, there are various Execumama profiles and examples of how to overcome common obstacles. Young working mothers have unique circumstances that this book both addresses and proposes solutions for.
